Key Information About L-Citrulline:

• L-citrulline is found in abundance in watermelons (Citrullus vulgaris), which is where the name is derived from. We recommend blending the rinds of organic watermelons for a healthy smoothie.
• It's an amino acid that the body can produce from other nutrients.
• Together with L-ornithine and L-arginine, it plays a vital role in the liver's urea cycle. Supplementation with L-citrulline or L-arginine is often recommended. L-citrulline is also a precursor to L-arginine, which is produced during this cycle. L-citrulline is slowly converted into L-arginine in the body, which means its effects last longer than a direct dose of L-arginine.
• L-arginine is obtained through fermentation. L-ornithine is produced via hydrolysis (hydrolysis = the splitting of a biochemical compound by water). L-citrulline is then derived from L-ornithine.
